However, it will kick the food sources out of the edges and into the prime fish habitat. It's a good time to use crayfish patterns until the fish are all full, at which point they stop eating.

Please can you include some reference to the actual size in standard units mm, cm, in, for example or perhaps someone has a link? I'm trying to compare fly sizes to the real world (the size of the flies nymphs). Don't take this as criticism this is still the best link I've found in hours of searching, but a rough guess to dimensions in mm or similar is more what I'm looking for than a comparison of manufacturers. Anyone who can help please do!

Just returned from Northern Manitoba and nailed (and released) some monster pike on two bunny tail fly patterns. Both bunny tail flies were borrowed. One fly now owned by a monster northern who still resides in Big Sand Lake. The other fly was returned to the guide who loaned it to me.
I need a source to buy some bunny tail and split bunny tail flies can you help me.

Burn-outs are basically overexposed areas in the image, and the simple way to avoid them is to underexpose. I have for many years had my digital cameras permanently set to underexpose 3/4 of an aperture step. Details from the dark areas can often be found in a photo-editing program once you get home, while burnt-out areas are lost forever. They have no detail, but are just white.
You can also try to avoid situations, which lead to burn-out areas like having reflections in the image, sharp light against you, very hard light/shadow combinations etc.
But my prime advice would be to generally underexpose.
Actually I have a whole article on exactly that subject on the bench right now, so if you have a little patience there will be even more details about this very important subject in digital photography.

I have a question as to how to avoid this "burn out" while taking a picture.
This seems to happen to me quite a bit, especially when I use my flash as suggested in one of your articles. I use a Olympus C5050 which has a number of adjustments when it comes to using the flash.
You can probably tell I am not an expert photographer by asking such a question but still manage to get a few good pics now and then! Some have even made it on your site.
Any information as to how I can avoid this "burn out" would be greatly appreciated. I'm always looking for a way to get a better picture.

It certainly reflects the fact that I have fished the fly a majority of the time.
This year I have fished 8 out of 10 fishing hours on the coast with a Magnus fly, and guess which fly has brought me most fish.
Hint: It's not The Danish Pastry fly... ;-)

Martin, are these number maybe reflected in the fact that the Danish Pastry Fly has been on your leaderpoint for 74 out of 120 hours, or do you really find that it "out-powers" other flies?

Hi - Im planning a fishing trip to greenland these days. Its for a danish travel agency www.topas.dk - who has hiking trips to most of greenland. Ive pushed them to arrange fishing trips for year and finally succeded this year..... as Topas got their hands on som cheap air tickets.
Its going to be a testtrip - Those who join the group pays only costprice....
we leave on the 28th of july 06 and fish 3 days in Kangerlussuaq and 3 days in the Disko area.....

I'm not absolutely sure which of his books it appeared in, but Datus Proper discussed the realities of hook size in one of his books - and I think it was in _What the Trout Said_. Whether or not his discussions hold true in today's market is another thing - manufacturers seem to play fast and loose with conventions when it makes their product appear more state-of-the-art.
Just wanted to congratulate you on your wonderful website and particularly your podcasts. I was also at the Danish Championships - true the wind was certainly a major problem for LH casters. When the casting lanes etc were set up on the previous day the wind wasn't much of a problem at all. It blew up overnight, but it could also have changed direction and come in from the east, then the RH casters would have been at a disadvantage :).
All in all I think it was a great event, the weather was perfect (except for the wind ;)) and the organisers did a great job.
Congratulations to the organisers, the winners and last but not leat to all of those who competed. Well done.
To Phillip: From what I heard from the arrangers, they had tried really hard to get a wind-free arena to place the whole competition in, but due to them being in the mercy of what the municipal government could/would provide, and not what they could rent, the placement of the competition was as such.
To Vanuz: There has been a lot of debating on the subject and I'm sure that the arrangers would have gone out sooner, had it been possible. I guess that they have learned a good deal on how slow things can go. But I do think that the competition was made "fully" public about a month ahead. At least I saw it in one of the major magazines and it was debated quite a lot on the largest danish online forum. But maybe they should have worked more closely with the national sportfishing association (NSA) and I'm quite sure they will next year. They argumented that their independence of the NSA, meant that they should do it without them, but I think they changed their minds afterwards. You can read more on this discussion on CFCC's forum (in danish).
